Live Music Baby!

Hiyaa!

Merry pre-Christmas everybody! It's already december and the pre-Christmas party season is raging. My season consists of a lot of different concerts and gigs.

Tampere has so much live music and great small bands to offer that I could enjoy a great band live almost every night. Last week there was...

..Picnic with Lulu minitour

@Vostok pikkujoulut, YO-talo

..and Delay Trees

@Klubi

Tomorrow it's Moto boy's turn @Dooris. I will be taking some photos for Desibeli.net so there will definitely be something to show.

(PS. that Delay Trees photo also for Desibeli.net)

Tim Gilbertson

This weekend I was browsing through my old cd collection and found an old friend! Tim Gilbertson plays laid back power-pop with a unique sound. It was his debut album in 2007 that really inspired me and I almost over-listened it. Meaning I listened to it all day long for weeks.

Now there's a new Tim Gilbertson album called Palisades. I'm not through listening to it yet but sounds great! Check it out. Today's song is an older one called 'Wasting air'.

It's time for some Night Moves this saturday at YO-talo! Turku 2011 European Capital Of Culture, Turku Modern and Plauge present: Nopat, Plauge Dj's and the great but not late Jori Hulkkkonen!

I'm there but the question is: ARE YOU?
At the moment I'm sadly without any company...but what can you do if you love music that much :)

If any of you is a lone wolf like me, please contact me and it's a date ;D Plus it would be sometimes nice to meet other bloggers who have the same musical interests :)

It's going to be a biiiiiiiig party, can't wait!

Biffy Clyro @ Pakkahuone

Even though I didn't get a photo pass I still had to see Biffy Clyro play live at Lost In Music festival. The ticket was 25€ but worth every penny. The heat was on in the first row :D here's some photos I took.

Look Back

Today I really found Salem Al Fakir. When his album 'Ignore This' came out this year I did what his reverse psychology wasn't maybe expecting - I totally ignored the whole hype. Ok everybody has heard that 'keep on walking' song at least in the radio. But it sounded like a one hit wonder to me so I just let it be.

Funny thing that Salem Al fakir has done already two albums before this "hit" record. Today I bumped into his older songs and I really liked it. Especially last year's album 'Astronaut' sounded fresh. There is something great about his sound.. that could catch on!

There's so much good music made every day that I truly recommend to sometimes stop and explore some old tunes. It's made so easy nowadays by the internet. And it's fun. so LOOK BACK!

But back to business... Astronaut albums song 'Twelve Fingers' has this awesome kind of heroic beat :D Very catchy, very catchy in deed!

ENJOY!

Inspiration - where to find?

For me there is three simple things that inspire me the most. Those things are music, fashion and photography. Well again I have tried them all to get my creativity back.. It's not cool to just sleep and feel sorry for myself when having this flu.

Ok, I bought shoes..

..well that didn't help and took a few pennies out my wallet. Then I tried to play a little with my camera..

..and that just pissed me off when I realized I'm taking pics of my mobile. But then I found something that made calm, at least.

HEDI SLIMANE

Hedi Slimane is this famous french designer, art director, photographer and what else. It looks like that video is shot with a DSLR camera's video function, so with a basic digital camera. At least I think so and it makes the thing so much better.. plus the song, Egyptian Hip Hop - Rad Pitt, is something I now cant get enough of. :)

PS. Clothes by Clare Richardson and those pretty little teeth belong to Georgia May Jagger, Mick Jagger's youngest daughter.

PS2. If you want to see some decent finnish photography you should check out
Parta & Linssit. Talented guys from Tampere ;)

The Pianist

Oh shit. It's the flu season again. I have been A LITTLE sick whole autumn. And no sports for me means weightloss.. and weightloss is not a good thing for a guy who has been blaimed for anorexia for no reason in elementary school :D Meaning that there will be only skin and bone soon if I don't get better. Well thank god I love food and that there's a great low budget Chinese restaurant in Tampere where I'm already quite known :D

Now I'm visiting Hyvinkää though because of mom's birthday and now I am also sicker than I've been earlier this year. But thanks again for (free) food and Roman Polanski's movie 'The Pianist'. It's an old movie but he's a great director and you can't help liking Adrien Brody's acting. Great art can make miracles if the old saying "Nuha lähtee nuss***lla" doesn't work.. haha.

Here's a song for the piano theme, a really great one! :)

Night in Town

After a long consideration I decided to add photos from our trip to Helsinki. They are some shots of Jussi going to "Kymppisitsit" of Media ry. The biggest reason I upload only pictures tonight was maybe that I've been so busy and haven't had time for a search for new music! It's these damn journalism studies :D

Actually I love journalism, It's the best thing you can study in a university. But I've been quite committed to the thought of applying for studies in photo journalism. That's why I've been taking photos so much this fall. And I really would like to have even more time for it - I've realized that it's my true love.

Ok, gotta hear some music also. The only good song EVER from these guys. And yes, that picture is quite disturbing but what can you do. Sex and violence.

First MyDailyBeat Playlist!

Kuva: Last.fm

I'm going to try a whole new thing for me today. I made a playlist for you to hear. :) I'm so crazy about acoustic music right now because I've been practicing to play acoustic guitar myself! Not much process yet but maybe I'll play you my own songs in five years, haha.

This collection is a mixture of old and new, slow and fast. Something to get past the rainy days and something to sing along when the sun is out. Hope you like it :)

Enjoy!

PS. For those who don't own Spotify, here's two great picks :)

Every cloud has a silver lining

It's not really a pleasure to visit Hyvinkää anytime anymore. It's not about my folks but the city is just like any other deserted ghost town! But there's plenty of activities around the house, thank God!

Nothing beats the feeling of waking up late in the morning when there's already a warm pot of coffee waiting with fresh copy of Hesari and Kuukausiliite. This time I even got the newest because they hadn't noticed me moving to Tampere.

Soon off to the "city" longboarding with friends.. I'm hoping to get some pictures, soooo fine colours and the weather is perfect! :)

My friend's band 'Picnic with Lulu' is the most perfect music you could imagine this time of the year :) They were 'Ääni ja vimma' semifinalist this year (correct me Jussi if I'm terribly wrong :D) so they are fresh and I think you'll love them! I feel all warm and fuzzy after listening :)

Enjoy!

PS. I'm so waiting for the first snow already... I guarantee to post soon something about that. But this video can be a taste :)

A couple of frames..

I almost ignored these photos I took this week at Klubi. It was a music filled night with Stalingrad Cowgirls and Sweatmaster. The night ended in Jack The Rooster with Parkside Lights and Vanity Beach, but my photoshoot was done after Sweatmaster ;)

And hey... Me and Jussi made a little story from this Gig @ Klubi.. Check it out

Here you go!

Feeling the Fall

Hellowww boys and girls!

The weather has been great this weekend in Tampere, fall has shown it's brighter side now! Here's some photos I took today, just something to get my mood right :) (I'm using Canon EOS 30D with a 50mm F/1.8 lens and a Sigma flash)

I'm hoping this fall would be a sunny one... forget about the rain and cloudy skies!

I would love to see France some autumn... this song takes me there a little bit :)
Chromeo I one of my long-time favourites. Their New album 'Business Casual' is pure gold, check it out!

The Right Type keeps up the classic Chromeo style, lllllove this song too.

IT'S FRIDAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

..so it's party time! And it isn't a party without dancing, is it?!

So here you have some for starters. Remember to enjoy responsibly... and always chew well! ;)

And some amazing artwork.. the song is old but I'm lovin' it :D

Have a nice weekend!

Le Magnifique!

No, sorry. It's Le Sport! (Former name was Eurosport but TV folk didn't find the name funny)

Le Sport lasted only two short years and they publised one album named 'Euro deluxe dance party'. I'm having a weird 80' music season; I can tell you, I've been listening to Pet Shop Boys and New Order A LOT! So Le Sport fits right into the picture :D

I think it's a hit.. this band. Those guys should make a great big comeback! What do you think??

Dreamy Tracks

It's like the sound of raindrops drumming a window.. it's like lonely yellow lights in a midnight traffic lighting the dark. It gives you hope for the upcoming winter - a promise for new intimate summer nights.. those unforgettable moments with your dearest friends.

At the moment there's only one thing that keeps my hopes up and my mood bright in this rainy city. The thing is a band called The Deer Tracks. Their sound takes me closer to spring and away from the depressing darkness of autumn. The fuzzy voice of singer Anna-Karin Berglund makes you memorize the sweetest memories and chapters of your life you've lived through.

So remember to take your vitamins and a daily dose of The Deer Tracks and I promise you - you will feel like a new person! :)

(I've mentioned DT before in my Twiggy Frostbite post. You should check that out too :))

PSB

Whoaaa!

They are the fathers of synth-pop, gods of electronic music and the most flamboyant band of the 80's. They are Pet Shop Boys - Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. The duo has produced so many golden hits that it's no use going to that best-hit-area...

..But this sure is a good one!

DANGERRRRR!

Hiya,

finally back in town after a long trip to Europe. It was fun to come home just for the Monsters of Pop festival in my new hometown Tampere.

Although it was sometimes painful going to school with almost zero sleep for three whole days I think it was worth it. Last night was the ending night of MOP and Danger played as the main performer. Oh you should have seen it! ;)

So for those who don't know Danger, he's a French electro artist Franck Rivoire. While performing live he covers his face with a spiderman-like hoodie.. just like Bloody Beatroots do but more original. And what's also original about Danger is his sound and the awesome 80's nintendo artwork showing in his promo banners and stuff. He certainly has eye for art after working for years as a graphic designer!

Yesterday he played two mind blowing remixes and today's song is the other. I also fell in love with the remix of Sebastien Tellier's song Divine..check it out! :)

On My Way

Picture: LastFM.

I've been so busy lately that I hardly have time for My Daily Beat!

My appartment in Tampere is now almost ready after the great water damage and a three month renovation.. AT LAST! Now I just have to figure out where to put all my clothes and all the small stuff I had to take with me from Hyvinkää... Like two year's issues of IMAGE magazine :D

The sun is shining again and I should be outside longboarding but now I just have to settle for doing my laundry.. At least Cocoon cheers me up! :)

They are a French duo playing simple folk-pop with all heart. The male-female duet sounds awesome but it goes without saying that Mark Daumail's voice is soooo charismatic..

I have been playing guitar so much lately that I must love the acoustic sounds in Cocoon's music.. 'On My Way' makes you forget all the hurry...and propably make you feel a bit better if you're hungover :D

Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

The Presets

This australian electro synth-pop duo just became one of my favourite australian bands with Miami Horror and Grafton Primary. Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes have been producing music since 2003 and they've really done a good job. For example in 2007 they toured Australia with the all known French house duo Daft Punk and in 2008's ARIA Music Avards they won in six categories - Producers of the Year, Best Artwork (Artwork by Jonathan Zawada), Best Video (My People, Directed by Kris Moyes), Best Dance Release, Best Group and Album of the Year. Impressive?

What's funny about these guys is that they both have a background of classical music. Julian and Kiberley studied both at Sydney's Conservatorium Of Music as they met in the early '90s and later got to form the band called 'Prop'.

But because I also value French DJ's pretty much I will give you the Lifelike remix of the song 'This boy's in love'.

..As a photographer I love the visuality of this video.. like the slow motion frames of waterdrops and blue shimmering lights.

What do you think?

Summer Breeze

Hiya!

I was recently in Helsinki shooting photos for my friends Marimekko project. I think that shoot went quite well and I lovelovelove the summer night feel in the pictures. Isn't a midsummer night the most beautiful and most finnish thing you can imagine?

I'm leaving to Milan in five days so we'll see how's the italian summer night like compared to ours, haha.

And now for a summery road trip with Kings of Convenience! ;)

Hot sand, cool beats

Ok. First of all I have to admit my trip to Jyväskylä and Neste Oil Rally took longer than I expected - and I didn't get to watch any of the rally. Well, at least we had fun. After these kinds of trips I always start to think why don't we have proper bars in Finland. Why isn't there bars with DIFFERENT music.. At least not anywhere else than in Helsinki. There has to be lots of demand for some Hipster bars in the bigger cities like Helsinki, Tampere, Turku and Jyväskylä.

Well. I'm glad we have Monsters Of Pop festival in Tampere(2.-4.9.10). A festival with a small but exclusive selection of indie bands playing inKlubi and Telakka. One of the greatest bands to me is I Was A Teenage Satan Worshipper. The band was actually formed in Tampere in 2004.

Join me then at 'MOP' and enjoy the music!

I Must Be Dreaming

Jambo, everybody!

..that's 'hello' in Swahili if you didn't know :D

I think a good DJ is born when one can take a shitty song and make a sick remix out of it.. In other words Turn shit into gold.

Yesterday I played you Koobra of the two DJ's in Helsinki 78-82 so today I'll show what Koobra and Flipperi can do together!

..and really, that original Kid Sister's song is quite lousy and every other remix made of it is nothing compared to our Finnish duo :)

Now I'm off to Jyväskylä WC-rally sseeeeeyyyyaaaaa!

Pure Gold Without Words

Heyyyaaaaa. Today's been a bit slow day - and a bit hungover too.. Haven't done nothing really. But I've been listening to a lot of house music and all kind of instrumental stuff.

I usually think that a good song consists of a fresh and cheerful melody and a unique singing voice. I also often lose my interest quite fast if a song lacks a singer.

But you can still make some pretty kick-ass music without words. Two great examples are Helsinki 78-82's other half Koobra and my newest discovery, French artist called Tepr.

I think they both make mind blowing beats although the 'Minuit Jacuzi DatA remix' could be the best song ever with some lyrics ;( Tepr's original has them alright..

But here we go!

keskiviikko 28. heinäkuuta 2010

ToughCuteCrazyDumb

Today I'm just going to post a video without that usual nonsense I'm feeding you!

....Ok, I lied. Here it comes!

Yesterday I mentioned the Finnish band called Pintandwefall. So today we're going to continue where we left.

Pintandwefall is a crazy ol' school band that got out of hand big time, won a band competition called 'Ääni ja vimma' in 2007. After that came the debut album with a small record label GAEA records from Tampere.

This garage rock group consisting of four young women is on it's way to fame, I think. This year they got a deal with a german label Viva Hate records that released their album in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

They are crazy, they really are. See for your self, haha!

Aki Roukala directed this awesome video.. and many other.

Wanna See Me Disco?

This song is a classic!

I heard Le Tigre's song 'Deceptacon' first time in Robot Food's snowboarding movie Afterbang in 2003 or so. It's funny that the song just makes you wanna dance and ignore the strongly political lyrics.

Le Tigre has been an advocate for the gay community and feminism through their left-wing attitude and lyrics. For me they are a band with a real rock band attitude. I could imagine Le Tigre beeing a pioneer of girl rock if not a role model for great girl bands like Sahara Hotnights and the always-awesome Pintandwefall from Finland. At least I'm convinced!

I picked today's song because of the sick DIY music video! Those outfits are sooo reaaaaal! :D

A Swedish Dream

My brother went to Stockholm in 2008 with friends and happened to visit a concert where the Finnish band Ultramariini was playing. At the same time a Swedish band called Twiggy Frostbite played there. My brother told me about the band, I searched it from Youtube, fell in love immediately and bought their debut album 'Through Fire'.

The dreamy voice of singer Elin Lindfors and the beautiful slow and frosty sounds gave me goose bumps straight away. Somebody may recognize Elin's whisper-like singing from another band. The Deer Tracks share some of the same band members with Twiggy Frostbite - including Elin.

This single 'Heroes' was the one that got me hooked to the band but you should listen to the whole album.. beautiful unique songs.

Por favor! ;)

Y.L.H.C.S.D = W.T.F?

You don't have a clue what I'm talking about?

The Brittish band called You Love Her Coz She's Dead of course! It sounds like an acid frenzy in your ears that combines Nintendo sounds to a screaming female voice - so you just have to love it!

Earlier this summer I visited Provinssi Rock festival in Seinäjoki as a photographer. Aside from seeing the always awesome Pendulum I got to see Crystal Castles who had come to Finland all the way from Canada. Well, it's obvious the gig they played there was head-exploding. The flashing lights would have been an epileptics nightmare because even my head was aching after the show.

BUT THE CROWD WEN'T NUTS! This music is so intense you just have to jump in and dance crazy to the bass like a blind man.

I found You Love Her Coz She's Dead two years ago from the TV show Skins. Back then I was having a hard time loving that song 'Superhero' because I hadn't heard anything like it before. But it's funny because I still liked it so much that I had to look it up from the internet. I quess I still couldn't listen to it every day but it's a great weekend band! :)

YLHCSD is also signed to the French label Kitsuné that I've been talking about and have released one EP in 2008. Some singles from an upcoming album have been released in 2009-2010 but there hasn't been a second EP yet.

This quite fresh track is called 'Young tender hearts beat fast'...

ENJOIII.

Lisztomaniac!

Every day I am getting more and more convinced about the fact that the best music comes from France. Alternative rock band Phoenix is yet again a great proof for my thoughts. The band has been playing since 1999 so I think that's really respectable!

Ok, I have to admit this Classixx mix makes the 'Lisztomania' song almost better.. but there's still the Phoenix heart in it.

PS. You could easily think those tubes are 3D or something computer made but that's really a Swiss performance artist group 'Mummenschanz'. They are spectacular :)

PS2. Lisztomania is a real word! :D so if you're interested look that up, haha ;)

Gotta love the Horror

The australian Electro-pop band was put together in 2007 by the main man, producer Benjamin Plant, who got famous by playing club shows in Melbourne. He gathered a live act with three other guys to really play live outside Melbourne's clubs.

Plant has made awesome remixes before but the band's own stuff is also quite impressive. Without any released albums they got quite a bit radio time in 2009 with their song 'Sometimes'.

This year Miami Horror is about to give birth to their debut album! I for one am looking forward to it, my expectations are soooo high. That's why I'm sharing the first sigle from the upcoming album with you guys! It's called 'Moon Theory'.

ENJOY!

Not just a cute face

Two Door Cinema Club is propably the best thing that has happened to indie rock for a great while. These four guys from Northern Ireland have really given a kick to the traditional indie that I have been almost overconsuming for the past five years. That kick may be the electro sounds, the ridiculously fast beat of some tracks or the screeching guitar. Regardless of what THE THING might be I'm in love.

The band consists of three visible members and a barely noticeable fourth member with the Machintosh in charge of the electronic spice. Two Door Cinema Club looks just like a normal indie rock band - three schoolboys in cardigans, tight jeans and a cute voice to support a cute face. Still cute isn't really what they are settling for. They are really thirsty for being different and fresh.. and it shows.

TDCC was put together in 2007 and now three years after they published their debut album 'Tourist History'. I think it's all gold but what do you think? Today's video is for the song 'Undercover Martyn' and I think you'll love it. Especially if you've seen the 'Matrix ping pong' video, haha.

PS. TDCC is signed to French record label Kitsuné Music that has many of my favorite bands under it's roof. If you like this one you should check out what else they have to offer!

Laptop troubadours: James Yuill

Everyone's a DJ in today's world of laptops, wireless internet connection and overfloating music resources. Last friday I went to a club in my old hometown Hyvinkää and my friend and I almost vomited due to the crappy deejaying there. The guy was really GETTING PAID for playing that radio stuff and especially those lousy 'remixes'... Well, maybe that's just why the place is famous for it's cheap beer.

Thank God there are still people who can keep the music in electronic music. James Yuill is a one man miracle with his acoustic guitar, laptop and a sympathetic singing voice. When Yuill's debut 'Turning down water for air' was released in 2008, critics labelled his music as folktronica. The man can really play his guitar and has done gigs ceparately with only acoustic sounds. But you really get the best out of James Yuill with the two elements combined - because he really knows his s**t in deejaying also.

The new album "Movement in a storm" can't really be called folktronica. For example 'Sing me a song' is a song that to me sounds a lot like The Postal Service. But I still wouldn't call it electronic indie pop because Yuill's beats in this new album are so much more danceable. A song with the most loveable video called 'On your own' can point the direction I hope Yuill's music is going to.

But because I really can't find a song that would combine James Yuill's style into one song I will share two. First there's 'No pins allowed' in wich you can see the instruments Yuill is playing and the second is a funny video for 'On your own'.

ENJOY!

May this blog get its soul

It's time to start my own blog. I will be doing it in english because the music i listen, unless it's instrumental, is almost without exception in english. I've actually tried writing a blog before but just couldn't get my heart into it - with music it's different.

All my life I have been listening to music from death metall to rap and from trance to jazz. I am happy to say my death metal days are over but I'm still not too picky about good melodies. My day always starts with music and the song i choose to listen first in the morning with my coffee will usually tell my mood of the day. So feelings and music for me go really hand in hand.

Today is sunday. I accidentally slept way too long and am now feeling waaaayyyy too lazy.. so it's a great day for JAZZ! I found Gil Scott-Heron's song 'Me and the devil' and fell in love with the creepy video immediately. It's really not jazz but soul - and that guy's voice is soooo cool. Maxi Jazz, the singer of Faithless, would have so much to learn from Scott-Heron's spoken word.

But I won't be rambling any longer for now so you be the judge - is there soul or what?
